While each of the three artworks created for Brownsville Houses vary in approach—from photography to illustration to semi-abstraction—each artist included an element of figuration in their composition. This use of representational imagery signals a deep connection with the lived experiences of community members. During art workshops held at Brownsville Houses, artists and residents engaged in friendly conversation while exploring drawing, sketching, photography, and storytelling. Workshops were held both virtually and in person in collaboration with the Brownsville Resident Association.
