“Medicines We Know” by Crystal Clarity is a reflections on family recipes and the use of plants as herbal remedies. The mural design was created through collaboration with elders at JASA Bushwick/Hylan NORC.
Through sharing memories and cultural histories about foods and herbs, seniors reflected on how the mural might serve as a vibrant collage of ancestral practices. The mural is located at NYCHA’s Bushwick Houses, on the exterior of the community’s Senior Center. This program was made possible thanks to the office of Councilmember Jennifer Gutierrez.
