Lesley started her first gallery, The Workspace, in 1994 as a curatorial venue in SoHo with a program presenting thematic group exhibitions. After 10 years of programming she moved to the Upper East Side and reopened as Lesley Heller Gallery, with a focus on salon-style solo exhibitions set within a residential space. In 2010, she was among a handful of pioneering dealers to open galleries on the Lower East Side. Combining her two past programs, she opened as Lesley Heller Workspace, with a dual focus of presenting solo exhibitions by represented artists in the front gallery, and guest-curated exhibitions in the back gallery.
The gallery’s exhibitions have been featured in major publications including in Artforum, The New York Times, Art In America, Sculpture Magazine, ArtNews, Hyperallergic, The Brooklyn Rail, and The Village Voice, and was regularly ranked amongst the top galleries to visit in the Lower East Side neighborhood. Lesley holds a BA in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA in Arts Administration from Columbia University.
